Scutting on the back of lorries by young lads was very common years ago It came from the old horse drawn days when the beer and coal were delivered on dray trucks or flat wagons. the kids were jump on the back and the driver would not see them people for fun would call out scut the whip to make the driver flick back his whip which coud reach the end of the cart and would make the young fellas scarper also sometimes there would be no one there which got the driver wound up
